In May of 2001 we combined forces and created a partnership, it was a simple LLC, anyone can do the paperwork. There were probably 25 invites sent to the first meeting, and our club generally hovers around 10-12 people. I’m Erika, I started the club, I worked in a credit union for a Financial Planner at the conception. It wasn’t my favorite job, but it put a little fire under me to learn how to invest money. I didn’t have a lot, I was in my twenties and a college student, but combining forces allowed for some investing that wasn’t attainable alone. Women are smart, women stick together, women are savvy, and when you find a room full of them that all think this might be a fun idea, it can work. Since it was the dark ages we all agreed to read this dull book and we all installed this ancient software on our computers and started finding companies that we thought were smart/wise, like us. Our dues are paid monthly and all invested, with the exception of one month a year, that month we donate to an organization that needs our love. We also invest in some amazing software that keeps our financials and portfolio in check. We chose an online broker (there are many) where we had control, no advisers, just the simple ability to buy and sell stocks with a reasonable trade commission. We gathered enough money to wire and buy something and the rest is history.
